WCGC Shotgun Sports goes Green! We are proud to now be throwing White Flyer Bios as our primary targets.  These targets contain no harmful materials and will breakdown naturally in 2 years or less. Only non-toxic shot on all of our shotgun fields.

Sporting Clays: Suspended until further notice.

Monthly Trap Match: 50 rounds (25 - 16 yards/25 - handicap). Lewis Class scoring. Prizes awarded to top shooters.

5-Stand Trap: Join us the 1st Saturday (practice) and 3rd Sunday.

TRAP is a shotgun sport in which each shooter will shoot 5 shotgun shells from each of 5 stations. The stations are set in an arc from 16 to 30 yards behind the target launcher which is hidden below ground level in a concrete "trap house." The shooters rotate from from left to right until each shooter has attempted 5 targets from each station.. The object is to break as many targets as possible.

The shots are fired at clay targets which are thrown horizontally approximately 15 feet above ground level by an automated machine at oscillating angles within a 60 degree arc. A "round" of trap consists of 25 shots and takes about 20 minutes for five shooters to complete.

Wobble Trap is a more difficult variation of trap, where the targets vary in both angle and elevation.

In Doubles Trap two targets are launched simultaneously and a round consists of 10 shots from each station for a total of 50 targets. Both regular Trap and Wobble Trap are shot on a daily basis during the regular operating hours of the Club. Doubles Trap is available upon request and the concurrence of the Trapmaster.

SKEET is a shotgun sport originally designed to simulate hunting. Each shooter will fire a total of 25 shells from 8 different positions, known as "STATIONS". The stations are permanently set in a semi-circle and the shooters rotate from one station to the next. The shots are fired at clay targets thrown by automated machines from a stationary "HIGH HOUSE" on the shooters left and a stationary "LOW HOUSE" on the shooters right. The shooter will shoot at single targets approximately 12 feet above ground level from each "HOUSE" and double targets where the targets are thrown at the same time from each HOUSE approximately 20 yards in front of the shooter. The object is to break as many targets as possible for score. A "round" of SKEET consists of 25 shots and takes approximately 30 minutes for a SQUAD of 5 people to complete. Skeet is shot on a daily basis during operating hours of the Club. However, the SKEET field is closed on days when Sporting Clays is scheduled.

SPORTING CLAYS is a more varied shotgun sport designed to simulate hunting. Each participant shoots up to 10 shells at various style targets from a position known as a "STATION". The targets are thrown at various speeds and angles away from, over and in front of the shooter. Numbered stations are set-up in various natural terrain areas to comprise a "SPORTING CLAYS COURSE". The event is normally100 targets. But, one can optionally shoot 50 targets in lieu of the full event. The object is to break as targets as possible. SPORTING CLAYS is normally a full day event in order to accommodate as many shooters as possible at a comfortable pace. See the events calendar for days when SPORTING CLAYS is scheduled (currently suspended due to Covid-19 restrictions).

5-STAND combines the difficulty and varied targets of SPORTING CLAYS with the compact field layout of trap. 25 targets comprise a "round." 5 targets are attempted at each of 5 stations called "stands." See the events calendar for days when 5-Stand Trap is scheduled.

Competitors use three different firearms -- a modern sporting rifle (MSR), that is, a rifle built on an AR-platform; a pistol; and a shotgun. Matches generally involve courses where the shooter must move through different stages and engage targets in a variety of different positions. Each stage will generally require the use of different firearms and require the shooter to transition between them.

The targets might include clay pigeons, cardboard silhouettes, steel targets of varying sizes and anything else the match organizer designates as a target. Distances of the targets might vary from 1 yard to 200 yards or anything in between. The shooter who hits the most targets -- and avoids certain "no shoot" ones -- in the least amount of time is the winner.

Match rules abide closely by those set up by the International Multi-Gun Association (IMGA) or the United States Practical Shooting Association

(USPSA), which regulates some matches. Each of these organizations has guidelines and rules, but the ability to adapt them for specific matches is what makes 3-gun competition dynamic and exciting.

Just as it is with the practical pistol matches, 3-gun simulates combat or self-defense situations. A stage provides a certain scenario for using one or more of the guns in a specific sequence. Each stage is each match will usually be different than any you've shot before.

    Equipment

    • Rifles:
Most serious competitors choose MSRs in .223 caliber with fairly short barrels in the 18- to 20-inch range and 10-round magazines. But any semi-auto that will handle larger magazines are normally permitted.
    • Shotguns:
Any reliable autoloading or pump-action shotgun will work. For serious competition, it should have an extended magazine tube, a good set of sights and interchangeable chokes. Both shotshells and slugs are used in most 3-Gun matches.
    • Pistols:
Most shooters use 9mm semi-autos, but the .38 Super and .40 S&W are also popular in some divisions.
    • Accessories:
Each shooter needs a holster for the pistol and some sort of belt/pouch system to carry extra magazines and ammo.
    • Ammo requirement will vary by match. Contact Rob Holcombe prior to the match for the current month's ammo requirement.

Five Stand is very similar to Sporting Clays in that a wide variety of targets are thrown. No two five-stand events are exactly alike. There are five “stands” or stations to shoot from. There are 6 traps that throw targets in different presentations. Participants shoot in turn at each of the 5 stands and various combinations of targets are thrown from the traps. There is a menu card that will advise the shooter of the sequence of targets and whether its a single, report or true pair.

Five Stand is a great way to get a Sporting Clays like experience in a small amount of space, with very little walking.

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, we are not conducting most of the orientation in person at this time. Prior to coming to the range, you are required to view a presentation that you will attest to viewing when you arrive. You are still required to demonstrate your ability to safely handle a firearm. After doing so, we will give you a tour of the facilities. Sessions will be limited to a maximum of 4 attendees per session.

In order to view the presentation, you must log in to the members only portion of the webpage. Your user ID is the email you used for registration. If you haven't created a password, or forgot yours, you can go here to reset it.

Bring a firearm with you to do the safe-handling demonstration. Do not bring any ammunition with you to the orientation. If you plan on shooting after the orientation, please leave all ammunition secured in your vehicle.

A mask is required to be worn at all times outside of your vehicle while on club property.

This orientation is designed for new members (or those who have let their membership lapse). It covers the 4 basic rules of safe firearms handling, club and range specific rules/policies/procedures, and a hands on demonstration of proficiency of safe firearms handling. A tour of the facility and ranges is included.

    Mandated for all new members.

    Encouraged for all current members.

Registration is required, as space is limited.
