This is the last weekend to buy ammo before the new background check requirements go into effect. We just got a couple of shipments in, so have a pretty good stock on hand of the more popular loads.
On June 10, the Ca DOJ filed an emergency request for modification of regulations pertaining to what type of ID is going to be required to purchase ammunition (and firearms) after July 1. If you have not obtained your Ca. Real ID, you might want to consider getting it soon.
DOJ did send out an information bulletin to vendors on June 7. It contained information on what hardware we will need to have to access the system, and how the system will be accessed to conduct the checks. The Board has approved the purchase of the hardware we will need to access the background check system.
As you should be aware, the laws pertaining to the purchase of ammunition is changing July 1, 2019. We have been a licensed ammunition vendor since January of last year, and will continue to be a Ca licensed vendor. There has been a lot of misinformation floating around about this new process. The CRPA has published an information bulletin to try to clear some of this up. One of the difficulties is the Ca DOJ hasn't published the finalized rules and regulations the vendors will have to follow. A copy of the proposed regulations is available here.
There is an exemption for shooting ranges, however, it will fall onto the range to ensure the customer doesn't take the ammunition off site. So, starting July 1, anyone purchasing rifle/handgun ammunition from the club will have to participate in the DOJ background check process. There will be either a $1 or $19 fee that will be collected in addition to the cost of the ammo (read the regulations for the fee structure). For shotgun ammo, if the shooter also pays for the number of rounds of trap/skeet that match the number of boxes or ammo, they will not have to go through the background check process. If the shooter just wants to purchase shotgun ammo, lead shot ammo or cases of ammo, they will have to go through the background check process. The club is not going to get into the business of storing purchased ammo for shooters.
We will no longer be awarding shotgun shells as prizes for both trap league and sporting clays after July 1. We will be awarding WCGC gift cards instead (which can be used to purchase ammo, WCGC merchandise or shooting fees.
We still have lead shotgun shells in stock for those of you who also shoot elsewhere. We offer competitive prices on cases of lead shotgun shells in addition to our steel shotgun shells, rifle and pistol ammunition. Remember new ammunition sales regulations are going in place July 1.
