Happy New Year to all our members! We have some great events for January, please see the schedule below. We are looking forward to a New Year filled with safe shooting!

First WCGC would like to welcome our new President, Dayton Aldrich. Dayton has served on the WCGC Board as Vice-President and as a Board Member in the past. We look forward to his leadership to continue moving the club in a positive direction.

WCGC has some constuctive plans for this New Year!

    1. WCGC is currently getting bids to pave the road to the rifle and pistol range, with the plan to have it completed in the first quarter of this year. If any member is in the paving business, we would welcome your estimate. Please email Mike Morrison information at rangemanager@wcgc.org.

    2. WCGC is looking into updating the security camera system at the club. If any members are interested in assisting us with this, please email Mike Morrison information at rangemanager@wcgc.org.

    3. WCGC is in the process of updating the Archery Range. Our goal is to have it completed by February.

With the national ammunition shortage still going on, WCGC has limited stock on rifle and handgun ammunition and reloading supplies. We are pursuing other venders to resupply.

Reminder: We are still under Covid restrictions at the range. The following policies are in effect:

    • Face masks are required at all times while on premises.
    • 6 foot mandatory social distance between shooters.
    • Maximum of 10 people per range is allowed.
    • Membership cards are required and must be visible at all times.

    Fellow Members,

I hope you all had a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday. I wanted to let you all know that we are monitoring the Governor’s stay at home order as it pertains to how it will affect the club. The board and range management will keep you all up to date on this issue.

With these current restrictions, the club will be hosting our annual meeting on Tuesday, 29th of December electronically via Zoom’s online meeting platform. We will be sending out all of the instructions and the meeting room link to your emails on file.

During this month of December, the club will be seeing some new changes take effect. Number one is WCGC has a new Range Manager. Mike Morrison has graciously accepted the offer to take over as Range Manager. This plan has been in play for many months with Mike Foster and his family making the move out of California.  I want to thank Mike and his wife Shannon for all their hard work over the years to help keep this club running and we wish them all the best.

This month we will also be having some new faces on the board due to our recent club election. These changes will include the election of a new club President, Dayton Aldrich. I know Dayton will do a fantastic job in the position and wish him the best. It has been my pleasure to serve as the President of WCGC for the last three years and I would like to thank you all for your support over this time. I look forward to serving the club in my new role as a Vice-President.

One of our board’s major goals during my time as president was to move the club in a direction that would allow us to increase the accessibility of the club to all members and guests. With the club raising dues in July of 2019 to help with deferred maintenance such as rebuilding the road to our rifle/pistol ranges, we are in a position now to make this a reality. We are currently in the position to quote out the work and move forward with the road work. The board would like to extend the offer to any member that is in a position to provide a quote to rebuild the road to rifle/pistol. If interested please feel free to email (President@wcgc.org) or (secretary@wcgc.org) and we will coordinate with range management to schedule an estimate.

I hope you all have a safe holiday season and wish you all the best.

    Respectfully,

    Paul McKenna

This is the last weekend to buy ammo before the new background check requirements go into effect. We just got a couple of shipments in, so have a pretty good stock on hand of the more popular loads.

On June 10, the Ca DOJ filed an emergency request for modification of regulations pertaining to what type of ID is going to be required to purchase ammunition (and firearms) after July 1. If you have not obtained your Ca. Real ID, you might want to consider getting it soon.

DOJ did send out an information bulletin to vendors on June 7. It contained information on what hardware we will need to have to access the system, and how the system will be accessed to conduct the checks. The Board has approved the purchase of the hardware we will need to access the background check system.

As you should be aware, the laws pertaining to the purchase of ammunition is changing July 1, 2019. We have been a licensed ammunition vendor since January of last year, and will continue to be a Ca licensed vendor. There has been a lot of misinformation floating around about this new process. The CRPA has published an information bulletin to try to clear some of this up. One of the difficulties is the Ca DOJ hasn't published the finalized rules and regulations the vendors will have to follow. A copy of the proposed regulations is available here.
There is an exemption for shooting ranges, however, it will fall onto the range to ensure the customer doesn't take the ammunition off site. So, starting July 1, anyone purchasing rifle/handgun ammunition from the club will have to participate in the DOJ background check process. There will be either a $1 or $19 fee that will be collected in addition to the cost of the ammo (read the regulations for the fee structure). For shotgun ammo, if the shooter also pays for the number of rounds of trap/skeet that match the number of boxes or ammo, they will not have to go through the background check process. If the shooter just wants to purchase shotgun ammo, lead shot ammo or cases of ammo, they will have to go through the background check process. The club is not going to get into the business of storing purchased ammo for shooters.
We will no longer be awarding shotgun shells as prizes for both trap league and sporting clays after July 1. We will be awarding WCGC gift cards instead (which can be used to purchase ammo, WCGC merchandise or shooting fees.

We still have lead shotgun shells in stock for those of you who also shoot elsewhere. We offer competitive prices on cases of lead shotgun shells in addition to our steel shotgun shells, rifle and pistol ammunition. Remember new ammunition sales regulations are going in place July 1.
